I’m interested in the oddities of executions:
Marie Antoinette ascended the scaffold in two-inch heels.
I suppose it was raining. I suppose no one even put a hand to the small of her back.
Charles I doubled-up on cotton shirts to hide his shivering.
They pulled his head off the pole, sewed it back on for mourners, tore it off again later.
What is a guillotine if not for a clean break?
I might push anyone away with the distance of laughter. We might hold hands but it doesn’t mean we’re touching. A mouthful of breadcrumbs, a spineful of ticking clocks.
So what if it’s later than we think.
Do you drink from that mug?

(For those who know more interesting facts about executions, do send them. I’m collecting them, and I appreciate the additions.)
