Like That Old Pair of Jeans

I can no longer wear because the tear's just gone too far. This poem first appeared in Clackamas Literary Review, and I worry that it got lost in the shuffle of poems in print journals. It was one of the first poems I really felt pleased with during my MFA (well, I'm still finishing, but you know), and it was important to me for a lot of reasons. Something emotionally autobiographical that you've worked your ass off to craft into something musical and metaphorical ---it's quite a feeling of satisfaction in the end. I believe it's a piece that should be real aloud, really.

Anyway, thank you to my friend Luke for inviting me to Ink Node, where people can read "Driving Drunk..." and a ton of great poems by a wide variety of authors.
